Phycocyanin, or phycocyanin C ( the letter C stands for cyanobacteria, the blue-green algae ), is commonly called blue spirulina. It is water-soluble blue fine powder extracted from spirulina platensis. Phycocyanin E3 to E40 are available, and the E number refers to absorbance ratio value, the higher value means higher content of phycocyanin.
